A Singing Bird Will Come: Naomi in Hong Kong
This book is the sequel to Naomi: The Strawberry Blonde of Pippu Town. Naomi is now 15 years old. She visits Hong Kong while her mother teaches in an international school. Naomi takes several travel excursions outside of Hong Kong to Beijing and Macau. This book reads like a travel guide, but it gives a historical perspective about the Cultural Revolution.
Schreyer has several subplots running throughout the novel. Naomi volunteers at an orphanage and befriends Grace, a 16-year-old who is pregnant and rejected by her family. She forms a new friendship with Chen, an elderly man. Naomi struggles with her mother's new relationship and, through her Asian friends, learns the importance of patience and honesty.

Will's Garden
Will's "coming to manhood" ceremony precipitates the story in which Will considers serious issues in his community and in his life. The novel portrays the British Columbia First Nations matriarchal society and the impact that strong women have on Will. While this is not an action-filled book, it gives voice to many issues related to power, racism, bullying, love, homosexuality and stereotyping. The story demonstrates cross-cultural misapprehension and is told with compassion and humour.

As the only child of revolutionaries, Satrapi's life changes dramatically. Marjane found it very difficult to live under such strict rules and her disobedient behaviour put her family in danger. Her parents were forced to send her to live in Europe for her own safety until she was 14. King of Shadows
As a member of an all-boy company preparing to perform Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream in a London replica of the Globe Theatre, Nathan Field becomes ill and is mysteriously transported to Elizabethan England. This time-travel novel conveys the sights, sounds and smells of Elizabethan England as Nathan befriends Shakespeare. The details of 16th-century troupe life as well as how costumes, makeup and stage effects were carried out add depth to the story.
