Module 30: Fasteners and Joints (Core)
Suggested Time: 5-10 hours
Level: Advanced
Prerequisite: Module 9, 10
Outcome
Represent appropriate fasteners and/or fastening methods for given context.
Indicators
(a) Investigate the purpose and use of fasteners and joints.
(b)

Categorize fasteners by type:

  • head shape and drive type;
  • grade;
  • diameter and length;
  • pitch; and,
  • series.
(c) Investigate different thread forms (e.g., unified, metric, square, acme) and their applications.
(d) Determine thread designations and state the components of the designation.
(e) Identify and place basic welding symbols and associated joints on a drawing.
(f) Distinguish among wood joints (e.g., butt, mitre, dado, mortise and tenon, dowel, biscuit) and their applications.
(g) Identify common fasteners (e.g., counterbore, countersunk, hex head).
