Outcome
Analyze the rights and responsibilities of a digital citizen.
Indicators
(a) Explain that there is interconnectedness between thoughts and actions which is based on the implied and explicit intention of those actions.
(b) Identify and critique the rights and responsibilities of individuals and institutions associated with being a digital citizen.
(c) Examine classroom, school and school division technology use policies and analyze the consequences of non-compliance.
(d) Explain why technology use policies exist in schools and in businesses.
(e) Compare classroom, school and school division technology use policies with the rights and responsibilities of a digital citizen and speculate on the reasons for similarities and differences.
(f) Explore how matters such as digital surveillance, data collection and mining and permanence of information on the Internet relate to personal rights and privacy issues.
(g) Justify when a digital citizen’s ethical responsibilities supersede one’s digital rights (e.g., students have the right to freedom of expression online, but ethical responsibilities prohibit them from bullying online or posting explicit images or photographs without consent).
