Outcome
Describe and demonstrate the effective use of digital communication.
Indicators
(a) Identify and use communication platforms such as email and social media for a variety of purposes such as managing and sharing information, connecting with others and displaying learning.
(b) Critique various social media platforms and explain how their utilization may impact one’s digital reputation.
(c) Identify features such as logical (Boolean) operators and filters and describe the advantages of using them when performing internet searches.
(d)

Use the following to perform an advanced internet search:

  • a search engine’s built-in advanced search features (e.g., exact word or phrase, language, site or domain);
  • logical (Boolean) operators (e.g., AND, OR, NOT);
  • search operators such as “ ” (for exact phrase), - (to remove a word), and site: (to search within a site or domain).
(e) Explain the opportunities, limitations and implications of using online tools such as cloud computing, online learning platforms and file sharing to share documents and work collaboratively.
(f) Utilize online tools such as cloud computing, online learning platforms and file sharing to share a variety of documents, including word processing documents, presentations and PDF files.
(g) Investigate the impact of using anonymous posting apps and apps that have features such as “disappearing” posts.
(h) Discuss online gaming as a form of digital communication.
(i) Create a strategy for the inclusion of appropriate language, content, and images reflective of societal and legal standards in personal, classroom and school digital projects and assignments.
