Outcome
Analyze and apply principles of digital law as it applies to current Canadian context.
Indicators
(a) Recognize that laws are necessary to protect the rights of all citizens.
(b) Examine Canadian copyright laws and identify ways in which they apply to citizens in a digital environment.
(c) Explain why laws do not always reflect current digital technologies.
(d) Discuss the role of personal responsibility with respect to intellectual property rights and plagiarism.
(e) Explain the ethical and legal implications of activities such as digital stalking, sharing illicit content, hacking, piracy and plagiarism.
(f) Identify different types of licensing (e.g., closed source, copyright protected, open source, public domain) for original work.
(g) Investigate options for licensing one’s own original work.
(h) Describe consequences for unacceptable or unlawful online behaviour in school and community environments.
(i) Demonstrate acceptable practices while undertaking activities such as searching, remixing and sharing in a digital environment.
(j) Explore careers in the field of digital law.
