Module 7A: Keyboarding A (Core)
Outcome
Recognize and demonstrate proper ergonomic and touch keyboarding techniques.
Indicators
(a) Identify and demonstrate proper keyboarding ergonomics (e.g., sitting position, keyboard placement, hand position, mouse placement).
(b) Define repetitive strain injury (RSI).
(c) Discuss how proper ergonomics relate to injury prevention.
(d) Take regular movement and stretch breaks.
(e) Explain proper ergonomics specific to different devices (e.g., cellular phone, tablet, laptop).
(f) Compare ergonomic practices when typing on devices such as cellular phones and tablets to keyboarding on a traditional computer keyboard.
(g) Demonstrate keyboarding using the designated fingering of the correct hand (e.g., alphabetic keys, numeric keys, symbols).
(h) Use function keys for performing actions (e.g., undo, redo, close, save, print).
(i) Identify “shift” and “ctrl” modifier key shortcuts for performing actions (e.g., capitalize, undo, cut, copy, paste).
(j) Type with a speed and accuracy of approximately 30 correct words per minute.
