Outcome
Investigate various operating systems in computing devices, and describe and apply their attributes.
Indicators
(a) Define the term operating system, and describe the role of an operating system in a computing device.
(b) Investigate the strengths and limitations of various operating systems, including Android, iOS, Windows, MacOS and Linux.
(c) Explain the purpose of a server and the role of a server in using a computer remotely.
(d) Identify operating system functions (e.g., running applications, configuring peripherals, organizing files) that meet various user needs.
(e) Organize and manage files (e.g., copy, move, delete, rename, create shortcut).
(f) Investigate and apply conventional procedures to back up and archive user files.
(g) Analyze differences between various cloud storage methods.
(h) Identify when it is more appropriate to use a server and when it is more appropriate to use a personal computer for file storage.
(i) Explain considerations related to the purchase of operating systems, including purpose, necessity and cost.
(j) Assess user computing needs and select an appropriate operating system for different scenarios (e.g., a student on a fixed budget, a gamer, a photographer).
