Module 11: Hardware Design (Optional)
Outcome
Investigate the function of computers and their components, and examine their suitability for various users’ needs.
Indicators
(a) | Explain the functions of internal components of a computer (e.g., CPU, RAM, ROM, cache, hard drive, motherboard, power supply). |
(b) | Differentiate between a hard disk drive (HDD) and a solid state drive (SSD). |
(c) | Define and describe computer hardware (e.g., USB, Ethernet, HDMI), speed measurements (e.g., megahertz, gigahertz), and size measurements (e.g., megabytes, gigabytes, terabytes). |
(d) | Identify basic hardware differences (e.g. dimensions, supported interfaces, power wattage requirements) from data sheets or specification listings for hardware components. |
(e) | Describe the functions of common computer peripheral devices (e.g., printer, monitor, scanner, keyboard, mouse, speakers, USB flash drive). |
(f) | Assess users’ computing needs and recommend appropriate hardware components for different scenarios (e.g., a home video enthusiast, a distance education user, a student with a disability). |
(g) | Investigate accessibility tools to assist users of various operating systems in accommodating physical attributes such as individual sight, hearing or motor skill challenges. |
