INFO12
Module 12: Networking (Optional)
Outcome
Investigate the features and functions of computer networks.
Indicators
(a) Identify the purpose and characteristics of computer networks.
(b) Explain the functions of computer networks, including the role of a wireless router.
(c) Differentiate between wired (ethernet) networks and wireless (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) networks.
(d) Describe similarities and differences between personal home computer networks and business computer networks.
(e) Inventory the projected uses of a home computer network.
(f) Explain various methods (e.g., shared file access, shared printer access, Internet access) for sharing network resources.
(g) Identify common networking applications (e.g., email, instant messaging, synchronous real time communication) and protocols (e.g., domain name system [DNS], file transfer protocol [FTP], hypertext transfer protocol [HTTP], hypertext transfer protocol secure [HTTPS], network interface controller [NIC]).
(h) Identify layers of digital security, including networks, operating systems, applications and data, and the responsibility of users of each to enhance digital privacy and security.
(i) Assess security limitations to current computing networks.
(j) Research the implications of constant availability of computing networks on the lives of people.
