Module 7: Body Filling (Core)
Outcome
Assess damaged areas and carry out repairs to body fill.
Indicators
(a) Prepare cost estimates of the materials used to repair damaged surfaces.
(b) Estimate how much body filler and hardener is needed to repair damaged surfaces.
(c) Rough areas to be filled with disc sanders using a 60-or 80-grit disc to ensure the body filler will adhere to the metal.
(d) Demonstrate how to spread body filler over damaged areas with putty knives to create a smooth appearance similar to finished panels.
(e) Apply appropriate sanding techniques to prepare surfaces for refinishing and to obtain true panel contours.
(f) Examine damaged areas for smoothness and adjust as necessary to obtain true panel contours.
(g) Practise proper safety procedures by wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as a particle mask, eye and ear protection and rubber gloves and cleaning as appropriate.
(h) Assess the design and organization of the workspace to prevent workplace injuries when body filling.
(i) Research short- and long-term health concerns related to body filler particles and dust in the workplace.
