Outcome
Assess complex metal damage and carry out repairs.
Indicators
(a) | Identify the original point of impact to a panel from a collision to determine potential corrective repairs. |
(b) | Prepare a cost estimate of the materials used for metal repair. |
(c) | Demonstrate proper use of hand and power tools to contour metal. |
(d) | Identify all direct and indirect damage to panels. |
(e) | Remove glass and trim, if needed, before attempting to straighten metal. |
(f) | Remove damage from the least damaged area to the worst damaged area. |
(g) | Determine the amount of body filler needed to repair damage. |
(h) | Repair major damage using picking tools, dent pullers, uni-spot pullers, body spoons, suction cups and hydraulic rams. |
(i) | Inspect repair and carry out adjustments as necessary to complete repair. |
(j) | Recognize and follow safe work practices when using hand and power tools. |
(k) | Implement a plan to design and organize the workspace to prevent work-related injuries related to metal repair. |
(l) | Examine the effects of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) on the environment. |
(m) | Investigate and describe short- and long-term health concerns related to body filling products and dust in the workplace. |
