Module 19: Automobile Detailing (Optional)
Outcome
Assess the interior and exterior condition of an automobile and apply detailing procedures.
Indicators
(a) Analyze the interior and exterior condition of an automobile to identify required detailing procedures.
(b)

Complete interior (e.g., vacuuming, brushing, steam cleaning, glass cleaning, leather trimming, re-vacuuming, wiping, perfuming) and exterior (e.g., washing, drying, claying, polishing, sealing) detailing of an automobile in addition to:

  • inspecting the glass and completing necessary repairs;
  • cleaning the chrome with appropriate products; and,
  • inspecting the headlight and turn signal glass, light bulbs and completing necessary repairs.
(c)

Analyze operational complications such as the heating and air conditioning (HVAC) system, stained switches and hazy windows on the interior of the automobile in addition to:

  • inspecting the interior and removing after-market attachments that are loose or worn;
  • inspecting the carpet and seats for rips, tears and stains (e.g., soil, grease, chocolate, oil, candy, road tar or blood) and completing necessary repairs; and,
  • inspecting the door and window weather stripping and completing necessary repairs.
(d) Determine the appropriate materials, costs and tools to detail the interior and exterior of the automobile.
(e) Examine the environmental effects of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) used in detailing.
(f) Examine short- and long-term health concerns related to chemical exposure and demonstrate the appropriate safety procedures when using chemicals.
