Module 20: Automobile Trim Removal and Installation (Core)
Outcome
Assess damaged areas and carry out repairs to automobile trim.
Indicators
(a) Identify areas of automobile trim needing repair.
(b) Prepare a cost estimate to remove and replace trim.
(c)

Identify interior and exterior trim materials and fastening systems (e.g., clips, adhesives, screws) and carry out the process to repair trim including:

  • removing door panels and upholstery parts to access fasteners;
  • removing vinyl, overlays and decals; and,
  • removing weather stripping from all areas of the automobile and installing new materials.
(d) Examine an automobile and adjust and service trim accessories as needed.
(e) Demonstrate appropriate use of hand and power tools to remove and install trim.
(f) Practice correct safety procedures such as wearing gloves, long sleeved apparel and eye protection when repairing trim.
