Module 13B: Antilock Brake Systems (ABS) (Optional)
Outcome
Diagnose, service and repair anti-lock brake systems (ABS).
Indicators
(a) Identify and follow safe work practices (e.g., be aware of residual pressures and ensure all electrical wiring is located away from moving parts) when working with antilock brake systems, including maintaining a clean and organized work area.
(b) Identify the different types of ABS and their use in braking, stability control and traction control.
(c) Explain the function and operation of ABS and their components.
(d) Diagnose and perform ABS repairs according to manufacturers' recommended procedures, including bleeding the system as necessary.
(e) Follow correct torqueing procedures for all ABS fasteners and discuss how improper torqueing can be a safety issue.
