Outcome
Diagnose, service and repair automotive heating and ventilation systems.
Indicators
(a) | Identify and follow safe work practices (e.g., check coolant pressure and temperature, be aware of moving components and pressurized refrigerants) when working with automotive HVAC systems, including maintaining a clean and organized work area. |
(b) | Demonstrate the proper procedures for disposal of used coolants. |
(c) | Explain potential environmental concerns associated with improper coolant disposal. |
(d) | Describe the function and operation of HVAC systems to heat, vent and cool passenger compartment. |
(e) | Perform common HVAC system tests (e.g., visual inspection, pressure tests, leak detection and coolant tests) and maintenance procedures (e.g., checking fluid levels and flushing the heater core). |
(f) | Diagnose and perform common HVAC system repairs such as repairing system leaks, replacing heater cores, blower motors, fuses and fan belts and cleaning evaporators, condensers and heater cores. |
