Diagnose, service and repair automatic transmissions.

| (a) | Identify and follow safe work practices (e.g., lift and support components properly and be aware of component weight and pinch points) when working with automatic transmissions, including maintaining a clean and organized work area. |
| (b) | Demonstrate proper procedures for disposal of used transmission oil and explain potential environmental concerns associated with disposal of transmission oil. |
| (c) | Explain the purpose and function of automatic transmissions. |
| (d) | Describe the operation of an automatic transmission in terms of its components (e.g., torque converter, clutches and bands and planetary gear sets). |
| (e) | Identify common symptoms and faults associated with automatic transmissions. |
| (f) | Diagnose and perform automatic transmissions repairs, such as transmission flushing, changing transmission filter and pan gasket, inspecting and clearing venting, adjusting linkages and removing and reinstalling the transmission. |
