Module 27B: Advanced Automotive Electricity and Electronics (Optional)
Outcome
Diagnose, service and repair automotive electrical systems.
Indicators
(a) Identify and follow safe work practices (e.g., grounding static electricity, being aware of high voltage electric drives, avoiding lead solder fumes and connecting batteries correctly) when working with automotive electrical systems, including maintaining a clean and organized work area.
(b) Identify common electrical and electronic components in automotive circuits.
(c) Identify and select appropriate wire gauge, connectors and circuit protection devices (e.g., fuses and breakers).
(d) Interpret electrical system wiring diagrams (e.g., lighting, horns, windows and doors) to help diagnose electrical problems.
(e) Perform common electrical tests (e.g., voltage, voltage drop, resistance, current and parasitic draw) using electrical testing equipment such as multimeters and test lights.
(f) Provide examples of common faults (e.g., short to ground, short circuit, high resistance, open circuit and mechanical resistance) that may occur in automotive electrical circuits.
(g) Diagnose and repair common automotive electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic techniques.
(h) Perform mechanical adjustments (e.g., headlight, camera, sensor and switch alignments) to automotive electrical system components.
