Note: Students should not work on air bag systems. Only certified technicians should diagnose and repair air bag systems.
Outcome
Diagnose, service and repair passenger restraint systems.
Indicators
(a) | Identify and follow safe work practices (e.g., torqueing fasteners to specification) when working with passenger restraint systems, including maintaining a clean and organized work area. |
(b) | Explain the construction and operation of various passenger restraint systems (e.g., seat belts and their recoils and car seats). |
(c) | Use appropriate equipment to test passenger restraint systems. |
(d) | Inspect passenger restraint system components for common faults such as frayed belts, retractor failure and cracked or broken buckles. |
(e) | Install passenger restraint system components (e.g., child car seats, bucket seats and seatbelt mechanisms). |
(f) | Diagnose and repair passenger restraint systems. |
