(a) Identify the importance of safety when undertaking automotive service procedures, including safety hazards and preventative measures common to the automotive industry.
(b) Describe ways to reduce personal injury or material and equipment damage as a result of unsafe work acts or environments.
(c) Inspect and utilize protective devices on equipment.
(d) Identify industry standard personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety goggles, hearing protection, gloves and footwear, and appropriate PPE cleaning procedures.
(e) Identify potential health concerns when PPE is not used properly.
(f) Identify the correct fire extinguisher for different classifications (i.e., A, B, C, D and K) of fires and how to use the extinguisher correctly (i.e., PASS - Pull Aim Squeeze Sweep).
(g) Describe the importance of a clean workplace and methods used to maintain a clean workplace.
(h) Locate, identify and explain the correct use of safety equipment (e.g., eye wash station and first aid station) in the workplace.
(i) Identify, label, store and handle hazardous materials according to Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS 2015).
(j) Recognize and apply safe and fair work practices, including freedom from violence, harassment and bullying.
