Diagnose, service and repair automotive heating and ventilation systems.

Indicators for this outcome
(a) Identify and follow safe work practices (e.g., check coolant pressure and temperature, be aware of moving components and pressurized refrigerants) when working with automotive HVAC systems, including maintaining a clean and organized work area.
(b) Demonstrate the proper procedures for disposal of used coolants.
(c) Explain potential environmental concerns associated with improper coolant disposal.
(d) Describe the function and operation of HVAC systems to heat, vent and cool passenger compartment.
(e) Perform common HVAC system tests (e.g., visual inspection, pressure tests, leak detection and coolant tests) and maintenance procedures (e.g., checking fluid levels and flushing the heater core).
(f) Diagnose and perform common HVAC system repairs such as repairing system leaks, replacing heater cores, blower motors, fuses and fan belts and cleaning evaporators, condensers and heater cores.
