Module 6B: Renewable Power Production and Distribution (Optional)
Outcome
Examine power production from renewable sources.
Indicators
(a) Compare the characteristics of various renewable power sources (e.g., residential photovoltaic solar, commercial solar and wind).
(b) Research different options (e.g., net metering, grid tie and off-grid battery storage and off-grid power sources) associated with renewable power generation.
(c) Explain how power generated from renewable sources can be made available to the electrical grid, considering technologies such as DC solar, power inverters, grid tie devices, islanding devices and bi-directional meters.
(d) Analyze the economic benefits of generating power from renewable sources, considering factors such as payback period, technology costs and efficiency.
(e) Design and/or construct a model of a power system that incorporates renewable sources.
(f) Investigate the current and potential future status of power production from renewable sources in Saskatchewan.
