Module 20D: Magnetic Control Circuits (Optional)
Outcome
Investigate and construct magnetic motor control circuits.
Indicators
(a) Demonstrate safe practices when working with magnetic motor control circuits.
(b)

Draw schematic diagrams of different circuits that incorporate magnetic motor control devices including:

  • a magnetic control circuit that is controlled from two locations by stop-start switches;
  • a control circuit for a magnetic starter operated by a stop-start-jog push button station; and,
  • a magnetic reversing starter to be controlled by a stop-forward-reverse push button switch.
(c) Review code rules and other relevant information related to magnetic motor control devices and switches.
(d)

Wire and connect different circuits including:

  • a three-phase motor to be controlled by a magnetic starter;
  • a three-phase motor controlled from two locations by stop-start switches;
  • a magnetic starter controlled by a stop-start-jog switch to a three-phase motor; and,
  • a magnetic starter controlled by a stop-forward-reverse switch to a three-phase motor.
(e) Observe a magnetic starter that is controlled by electrical interlocks.
(f) Draw schematic diagrams of control circuits (e.g., overhead doors, conveyor systems and fluid levels in tanks) that include proper limiting and safety switches.
