ELEC25B
Module 25B: Diodes B (Optional)
Outcome
Investigate the properties of diodes.
Indicators
(a) | Draw diagrams of silicon or germanium material doped with indium, gallium and boron to produce positive (p-type) material. |
(b) | Draw diagrams of silicon or germanium material doped with arsenic, phosphorus, bismuth and antimony to produce negative (n-type) material. |
(c) | Explain what happens when n-type and p-type material form a junction. |
(d) | Explain, with the aid of a diagram, the effect of applying different polarities on a junction. |
(e) | Test different shaped diodes to determine their anode and cathode. |
(f) | Interpret meter readings of diodes to check the labeling of the leads. |
(g) | Draw the schematic symbols for various diodes such as zener diodes, varactor diodes and LEDs. |
(h) | Explain how diodes with different properties can be used to perform different functions. |
