Indicators
(a) Research the types (e.g., retail and wholesale outlets, electrical contractor and manufacturing) of business opportunities available in the electrical and electronics industries.
(b) Explore electrical and electronics-related business opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, mining, power generation, communications providers and construction.
(c) Investigate the advantages and disadvantages of different business ownership models, including sole proprietorship, partnerships and private corporations.
(d) Explore the role of franchises as a business ownership model in the electrical and electronics industries.
(e) Research the requirements (e.g., registering business name, collecting and remitting taxes, licensing and zoning) for establishing a business in one’s community.
(f) Research the importance of sustainable business practices such as providing quality customer service, following environmental guidelines and employing qualified and certified personnel.
(g) Explain the advantages of and requirements for obtaining Blue Seal certification.
(h) Explain the responsibility of a business owner to employ individuals with various levels of training (e.g., apprentice, journeyperson and Red Seal) and to provide quality customer service.
