(a) | Identify tools used in hand sewing (e.g., measuring tape, needle, thread, scissors, fabric). |
(b) | Discuss safety procedures as they apply to hand sewing (e.g., focus eyes on the needle, use scissors with caution). |

Practise basic hand sewing:

(d) | Practise a variety of simple hand stitches (e.g., running stitch, over cast stitch, back stitch, basting). |
(e) | Create an item using simple hand sewing techniques (e.g., coasters, bookmark, sunglasses case, sock puppet, simple stuffed animal). |
(f) | Examine the traditional ways First Nations and Métis people use hand sewing techniques for the creation of such items as clothing, shelter and equipment. |
