Outcome
Demonstrate safe use of
a sewing machine.
Indicators
(a) | Identify parts of a sewing machine (e.g., needle, bobbin case, spool pin, presser foot). |
(b) | Discuss safety procedures as they apply to machine sewing (e.g., keep finger away from moving parts, focus eyes on the needle, use scissors with caution, turn off machine when not in use). |
(c) | Apply ergonomic recommendations when sewing (e.g., feet flat, back straight, shoulders and neck relaxed). |
(d) | Practise sewing machine basics (e.g., zigzag and straight stiches, reverse stiches). |
(e) | Demonstrate the ability to set up a sewing machine for operation, (e.g., winding a bobbin and threading a machine and a bobbin, adjusting sewing tension). |
(f) | Create a project using a sewing machine (e.g., simple stuffed animal, pillow case, place mats, napkins). |
