Outcome
Demonstrate safe use of
a serger machine.
Indicators
(a) | Differentiate between a serger and a sewing machine. |
(b) | Apply the basics of operating a serger. |
(c) | Demonstrate the ability to use a serger to create a seam finish. |
(d) | Identify parts of a serger (e.g., thread tree, presser foot, needle, thread tension control). |
(e) | Discuss safety procedures as they apply to serger (e.g., keep finger away from moving parts, focus eyes on the needle, use scissors with caution, turn off machine when not in use). |
(f) | Apply ergonomic recommendations when sewing, (e.g., feet flat, back straight, shoulders and neck relaxed). |
(g) | Practise securing a line of serging. |
