Module 31: Embroidery and Bead Work (Optional)
Outcome
Create a beadwork or embroidery project incorporating a variety of hand stitches.
Indicators
(a) Review safety procedures as they apply to hand sewing (e.g., focus eyes on the needle, use scissors with caution).
(b) Practise intermediate hand sewing techniques (e.g., blind hemming, overcast stitching, ladder stitching, blanket stitching).
(c) Practise embroidery stitches (e.g., French knot, chain stitch, sating stitch, split stitch, lazy daisy, feather stitch).
(d) Construct a design project that incorporates a variety of embroidery stitches.
(e) Inquire into the significance of beadwork in various cultures (e.g., Métis, First Nations, Indian, Middle Eastern).
(f) Investigate various beadwork patterns.
(g) Practise beading stitches (e.g., back stitch, halo stitch, chain stitch, lace running stitch).
(h) Create a simple embroidery or beadwork project (e.g., earrings, moccasins, key chain, necklace).
