Outcome
Investigate expectations and standards in the hairstyling and esthetics industry.
Indicators
(a) Identify expectations and standards in the hairstyling and esthetics industry such as sanitation, safety, work ethic and professional image.
(b) Construct a list of skills for an individual entering into a career in hairstyling and esthetics.
(c) Discuss the importance of effective communication such as active listening and speaking clearly as it relates to hairstyling and esthetics.
(d) Reflect on the impact of positive and negative non-verbal communication (e.g., smile/frown, body language) when working in the field of hairstyling and esthetics.
(e) Define terminology (e.g., draping, sanitization, massage, cuticle, contour) and identify the chosen profession (e.g., hairstyling, nail technician, skin technician, makeup artist) where the term would be used.
(f) Research and present on an area of interest found within hairstyling and esthetics (e.g., how much money annually is spent on the beauty industry, how animal testing impacts use of products, the increase in use of environmentally sustainable products).
(g) Conduct an inquiry into the question, “How does dermatology, massage therapy, theatrical makeup, hairstyling and barbering fit under the umbrella of the beauty industry?”.
