Outcome
Examine scope of practice within hairstyling and esthetics.
Indicators
(a) Identify hairstylist services such as shampoo, cut, style and chemically treat hair.
(b) Identify esthetician services such as massage, skin care, nail enhancements and make up.
(c) Define scope of practice and how it applies to estheticians and hairstylists.
(d) Recognize what is appropriate scope of practice for someone who has not received all the necessary training and certification.
(e) Explore different steps found within scope of practice (e.g., technician, journeyperson apprentice, journeyperson, medical, dermatologist).
(f) Discuss why hairstylists may also provide services such as scalp treatments, hair additions and barbering techniques.
(g) Discuss why successful hairstylists incorporate technical and interpersonal skills.
(h) Demonstrate appropriate scope of practice within hairstyling and esthetics.
