Indicators
(a) | Identify communications skills such as asking clarifying questions used in successful client consultations. |
(b) | Create a list of possible questions for client consultations. |
(c) | Discuss how respect for a client’s worldview, culture or self-identity should inform the consultation. |
(d) | Critique appropriate communication skills during a client consultation scenario or within a classroom role play. |
(e) | Discuss preparations for client consultation such as appropriate salon documents, client allergies and sensitivities, hair textures (e.g., fine, medium, coarse, kinky and curl pattern) and hair characteristics (e.g., density, porosity, elasticity). |
(f) | Determine, through client consultation scenarios, the type of service, the required time and the total cost. |
(g) | Conduct an inquiry into the question, how important is the client consultation for a successful salon experience? |
(h) | Discuss how technicians can create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all clients, including the important role language plays in client experiences. |
(i) | Explain the importance of confirming the final outcome for the service. |
(j) | Identify ways to establish, document, maintain and store records of client services/treatments. |
(k) | Demonstrate discretion and confidentiality in acquiring and managing client information. |
(l) | Analyze examples (e.g., potential bias, gender normativity expectations) that could negatively impact the client consultation process. |
