Outcome
Examine characteristics of hair and scalp.
Indicators
(a) Identify hair structures (i.e., cuticle, cortex and medulla) and sub-scalp structures (e.g., hair root and gland systems).
(b) Summarize factors that affect hair growth such as age, nutrition, health and hormones.
(c) Determine hair texture (e.g., fine, medium, coarse, kinky and curl pattern) and characteristics such as weight, shape, elasticity, porosity, density and growth patterns.
(d) Explore techniques (e.g., stretch single hair, feel hair with hands) used to determine elasticity and porosity.
(e) Recognize effects on hair exhibiting a lack of moisture or protein.
(f) Perform hair analysis and recommend products for maintenance, optimal health and condition of hair.
