Outcome
Examine the function,
types, conditions and
characteristics of skin.
Indicators
(a) | Identify and describe the structures (e.g., epidermis and dermis) and functions (e.g., heat regulation, absorption, excretion and sensation) of skin. |
(b) | Examine how client’s choices and behaviours (e.g., working outside, sunscreen) may affect skin including factors that might preserve the health of skin. |
(c) | Identify the nerves of the skin and explain the function of the nerves. |
(d) | Define and explain melanin, types of glands (e.g., oil and sweat), skin disorders and conditions and skin type (e.g., oily and dry). |
(e) | Discuss the benefits of steaming/hot towels on the face. |
(f) | Discuss the purpose and manipulations of massage. |
(g) | Demonstrate the manipulations used in massage. |
(h) | Explain the purpose of a facial. |
(i) | Explain and demonstrate the use of equipment, implements, products and materials when giving a facial. |
(j) | Practice appropriate safety and sanitation procedures when conducting skin care services. |
(k) | Conduct an inquiry into the question, how do environmental factors affect the skin? |
