Outcome
Execute a basic professional manicure.
Indicators
(a) Explain the purpose of a manicure and the importance of proper nail care.
(b) Explain the steps, procedures and precautions needed for performing a manicure service.
(c) Describe and demonstrate knowledge and skills related to pre-service.
(d) Describe appropriate equipment, implements, materials, supplies and products for a manicure service.
(e) Perform the set-up of a manicure table.
(f) Apply guidelines to maintain a clean and orderly manicure workstation and complete regular safety checks at the manicure workstation.
(g) Conduct client consultation and discuss the manicure procedure with the client before beginning service.
(h) Perform nail preparation steps of a basic manicure (e.g., nail soak, shaping, cuticle preparation).
(i) Practice the steps of a hand massage in a basic manicure including the use of nail oil and hand cream.
(j) Execute the procedure for applying polish such as clean nails, base coat, colour coat and topcoat.
(k) Discuss the importance of aftercare with clients.
(l) Apply safety and sanitation procedures before, during and after performing a manicure.
