Outcome
Execute a basic
professional pedicure.
Indicators
(a) | Explain the purpose of a pedicure and the importance of proper foot care. |
(b) | Identify and demonstrate the uses of equipment, implements, cosmetics and materials when giving a pedicure. |
(c) | Explain the steps, procedures and precautions before performing a pedicure service. |
(d) | Describe and demonstrate knowledge and skills related to pre-service for a basic professional pedicure. |
(e) | Demonstrate the set-up of a pedicure station. |
(f) | Demonstrate the application of guidelines to maintain a clean and orderly pedicure workstation and complete regular safety checks at the pedicure workstation. |
(g) | Conduct client consultation and discuss the pedicure procedure with the client before beginning service. |
(h) | Perform nail preparation steps of a basic pedicure (e.g., polish removal, foot soak, nail shaping and buffing and cuticle preparation). |
(i) | Perform callus removal by identifying callus, using chemical callus treatment and manually filing callus smooth. |
(j) | Identify various foot massage techniques. |
(k) | Practise the steps of a foot massage in a basic pedicure including the use of nail oil and foot cream and manipulating feet and legs to increase circulation and encourage relaxation. |
(l) | Execute the procedure for applying polish such as clean nails, base coat, colour coat and topcoat. |
(m) | Discuss the importance of aftercare with clients. |
(n) | Apply safety and sanitation procedures while performing a pedicure. |
(o) | Apply sanitation, disinfection and sterilization procedures after performing a pedicure. |
