Module 48A: Competition in Esthetics (Optional)
Outcome
Create competitive esthetics designs based on an analysis of qualities and criteria required to be successful in competition.
Indicators
(a) Discuss the levels (e.g., secondary, post-secondary, local, world and professional) and types (e.g., virtual, industry and hairstyling association) of competition in esthetics.
(b) Explain the purpose of competition in esthetics such as to evaluate competitor on knowledge of basic esthetics and to develop technical skills and creativity aligned with industry standards.
(c) Identify the qualities (e.g., knowledge, skill, professionalism, communicate effectively and showcases creative impression and ability) and develop the essential skills (e.g., numeracy and communication) of a successful esthetics competitor.
(d) Interpret competition scope document and rules and regulations.
(e) Examine criteria for design and judging used in esthetics.
(f) Apply safe and sanitary practices throughout esthetics competition.
(g) Discuss competition categories in esthetics (i.e., make-up- commercial, bridal, formal, daytime, theme, fantasy, manicures, nail art, pedicures, facials).
(h) Implement the use of manicure and pedicure terms, make-up artistry terms, preparation, procedure, post-procedure, varied implements, tools, supplies, materials, products, techniques and safety/sanitation within a timeline and/or adhering to criteria such as nail art steps, no excess polish on cuticle or side wall areas, creativity, correct blending and coverage and proper application method.
(i) Demonstrate knowledge, professionalism, procedure and safety and sanitation throughout the varied esthetic tests.
(j) Perform mock or scenario esthetic test within a set of regulated guidelines such as safety, sanitation, use of product, material, implements, tools, equipment and completed within a given timeline.
(k) Reflect on the benefits of participating in competition in esthetics.
(l) Describe own decision making and problem-solving processes used during competition and reflect on the effectiveness of choices made.
