Apply knowledge of American Sign Language, in predictable situations and for basic purposes, to impart information, share emotions and personal perspectives, achieve objectives and for enjoyment.
Indicators for this outcome
(a) Apply a repertoire of high-frequency signed vocabulary and short phrases to initiate conversations and communicate in simple interactions about concrete and predictable contexts such as local events or money.
(b) Ask simple questions regarding basic information to find out more about topics such as friends and family or the world of work.
(c) Give simple instructions regarding a procedure or a task that relates to predictable contexts such as technology and media or activities in the home.
(d) Express personal preferences and basic emotions regarding predictable contexts such as sports or meals.
(e) Create simple signed stories that consist of a sequence of events.
(f) Practise gaining the attention of a group by learning and applying Deaf conventions (e.g., shoulder tapping, stomping on the ground, flickering lights).
(g) Use ASL for entertainment and personal enjoyment (e.g., express humour, perform skits or songs, create stories).
