(a) | Identify examples of horticulture such as landscaping, gardening and growing crops for food, fiber and fuel. |
(b) | Differentiate between horticulture and larger scale agriculture. |
(c) | Differentiate between edible and ornamental horticulture. |
(d) | Describe the contribution that horticulture can make to food security. |
(e) | Research uses (e.g., food, medicine, utility, ceremonial) of traditional plants grown by First Nations peoples in Saskatchewan. |
(f) | Identify conditions (e.g., climate, drainage, elevation, sunlight) that contribute to plant survival. |
(g) | Define the term hardiness zone as a geographic area with a range of conditions conducive to plants’ growth and survival. |
(h) | Identify hardiness zones in Saskatchewan and Canada. |
(i) | Explore food-producing plants (e.g., trees, shrubs, vegetables) that are suitable for growing within the local area and other areas of the province. |
