(b) Discuss the potential benefits (e.g., health, social, economic, cultural) and challenges (e.g., conflicts among users, competition for resources) often associated with community gardens.
(c) Explore potential opportunities and challenges associated with a school garden.
(d) Research information on growing a healthy garden.

Plan for establishing a school or community garden considering factors such as:

  • permissions required;
  • sun, water and soil needs of plants;
  • space availability;
  • gardening methods;
  • weed and pest control and management;
  • resources (e.g., funding, human, equipment, water, tools);
  • roles and responsibilities; and
  • the process for distributing and sharing produce.
