Module 21: Careers in the Agriculture and Food Sector (Core)
Outcome
Assess personal suitability and interest in agriculture and food sector careers.
Indicators
(a) Reflect on personal values, interests, skills, personality traits, aptitude and abilities.
(b) Identify the range of career opportunities available in the agriculture and food sectors provincially, nationally and internationally (e.g., farming or food production, agritourism, research, animal health and welfare, advocacy and policy).
(c) Conduct informational interviews with individuals employed in the agriculture and food sectors to gain firsthand information about their career journeys (e.g., crop or livestock production, agribusiness, food processing and distribution, crop and animal science, research, health and safety).
(d)

Research occupations of personal interest in the agriculture and food sectors, considering criteria such as:

  • initial and continuing educational requirements;
  • duties;
  • skills required;
  • the work environment, including typical hours and shifts worked and locations;
  • current wages;
  • physical, mental and emotional stresses;
  • workplace hazards and safety considerations;
  • other occupations with which they interact;
  • professional and/or licensing requirements in Canada and Saskatchewan; and,
  • future trends impacting the occupation.
(e) Assess personal suitability for one or more careers in the agriculture and food sector.
(f) Develop a career journey plan that supports a preferred future in the agriculture and food sector.

Flat Out Food: Season 3

The field-to-plate documentary series follows host, Jenn Sharp, as she travels across Saskatchewan and learns about 8 ingredients. Jenn joins farmers, growers, artisans, and chefs and discovers how these simple ingredients are elevated into mouthwatering dishes.

Flat Out Food traces local ingredients from the field to the plate with the help of host Jenn Sharp. She travels through the province, meeting the farmers, the food artisans and the chefs who make Saskatchewan’s culinary scene shine. This documentary series highlights unique Saskatchewan ingredients and their journey from the field to the plate. Season 2 includes the following episodes:
