Module 6: Information and Effective Communication for Agribusiness (Core)
Outcome
Develop effective information gathering and communication skills commonly used in agribusiness.
Indicators
(a) Examine the importance of effective communication skills (e.g., speaking, public speaking, writing, listening and reading) for those employed in agribusiness.
(b) Reflect on personal ability to communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
(c) Assess the role that negotiation plays in effective communication within agribusiness.
(d) Identify strategies for negotiating better business deals within agribusiness.
(e) Role-play and analyze situations that demonstrate effective and/or ineffective negotiation skills within an agriculture context.
(f) Assess the importance of access to reliable information through all stages of the supply chain.
(g) Examine types of information needed at every stage of the supply chain for a variety of agricultural products.
(h) Discuss ways to determine the credibility of a source of information.
(i) Research sources of credible information that support decision-making at every stage of the supply chain.
(j) Identify communication tools (e.g., software applications; video conferencing and videotelephony; text messaging; electronic mail; blogging and videologging [vlogging]; print and broadcast media; and social media), the skills required to use them effectively, and when and why they might be used in agriculture.
(k) Justify the increasing involvement of farmers or producers in communications and conversations (e.g., with regulators, government and consumers) around food and production practices.
