Module 1: Introduction to Entrepreneurship (Core)
Outcome
Analyze the role and contributions of entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship to personal, school and community life.
Indicators
(a) Describe what entrepreneurship is and what entrepreneurs do.
(b)

Compare the characteristics of a variety of entrepreneurial ventures/organizations, such as:

  • for-profit, not-for-profit and social enterprise;
  • franchise and independently owned;
  • service production and goods production;
  • local, provincial, national and international; and,
  • home-based, online, brick and mortar, and bricks and clicks.
(c) Identify examples of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs within the local community and province.
(d)

Differentiate between:

  • an invention and an innovation;
  • entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship;
  • entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship; and,
  • social entrepreneurship and being socially responsible as an entrepreneur.
(e) Discuss opportunities and challenges associated with being intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial within the school and community.
(f)

Discuss the contributions that entrepreneurs make to Canadian society, such as:

  • increasing productivity;
  • creating jobs and more opportunities for people;
  • raising the standard of living; and,
  • inspiring and enhancing opportunities for under-represented or minority groups (e.g., persons with disabilities, women, youth, newcomers, elderly and individuals who are gender and/or sexually diverse.)
(g) Analyze statistics related to the contributions made by entrepreneurs to the local, provincial and Canadian economics.
