Module 2: Entrepreneurial Success (Core)
Outcome
Investigate factors that define and contribute to entrepreneurial success.
Indicators
(a) Differentiate among for-profit, not-for-profit and social enterprises within the community and province.
(b) Discuss the meaning of success within the contexts of profit, not-for-profit and social enterprises.
(c) Examine how culture and worldviews, including those of First Nations and Métis people in Saskatchewan, inform the definition of success for an entrepreneurial venture.
(d) Assess entrepreneurial success as defined by the Seventh Generation Principle.
(e) Debate the role of failure in entrepreneurship.

Generate a list of questions that could be asked of entrepreneurs to gain insight into their ventures and to understand what success means to them. Sample questions include:

  • How did you come up with your business idea?
  • What problem does your business solve?
  • What makes your business unique?
  • Why did you choose entrepreneurship?
  • What is the biggest challenge you have overcome?
  • What is your greatest achievement?
  • What mistakes have you made in your business, and how did you handle them?
  • Do you consider yourself successful as an entrepreneur? Why or why not?
  • As an entrepreneur, what advice would you give your younger self?
(g) Interview or research local and Saskatchewan entrepreneurs to gain insight into the broad range of entrepreneurial ventures within the community and province.
(h) Communicate interview or research findings related to local and Saskatchewan entrepreneurs through a multi-media (e.g., video and presentation), print (e.g., brochure and magazine) or oral presentation.
