Module 6: Economic Reconciliation (Core)
Outcome
Investigate Indigenous economic reconciliation as an important contributor to reconciliation in Canada.
Indicators
(a) Describe the state of entrepreneurship among First Nations peoples in Saskatchewan and Canada pre- and post-colonization.
(b) Research challenges faced, and contributions made, by First Nations and Métis peoples in helping to shape the entrepreneurial landscape of Saskatchewan and Canada.
(c) Investigate the tenets of Indigenous economic reconciliation including its holistic, values-driven approach to attaining community economic prosperity.
(d) Discuss the benefits of Indigenous economic reconciliation for all peoples in Canada.
(e) Describe the concept of economic leakage and the resulting impact on remote, rural, urban and First Nations communities.
(f) Investigate opportunities (e.g., innovation, creating wealth and community issues/problems) that could be addressed by entrepreneurship within the local and/or provincial community.
(g) Define the term urban reserve.
(h) Identify urban reserves located in Saskatchewan.
(i) Research the history of urban reserves in Saskatchewan including the impact of the Saskatchewan Treaty Land Entitlement Framework Agreement.
(j) Assess the economic, social and cultural opportunities provided by the establishment of urban reserves in Saskatchewan.
(k) Reflect on personal and collective responsibility for supporting Indigenous economic reconciliation within the local and broader community.
