Outcome
Assess the importance of social responsibility in entrepreneurship.
Indicators
(a) | List the four components (i.e., environmental, ethical, philanthropic and economic) of social responsibility. |
(b) | Discuss potential benefits (e.g., stronger brand image and reputation, increased customer loyalty and empowering employees to do good) associated with social responsibility. |
(c) | Research social responsibility according to the guiding principles of wâhkôhtowin, wicihitowin and wîtaskêwin. |
(d) | Identify ways (e.g., using alternative energy sources and implementing a recycling program) that businesses can demonstrate environmental responsibility. |
(e) | Describe what ethics are, and how personal and societal ethics influence business ethics. |
(f) | List examples (e.g., using fair business practises, ethically sourcing materials and offering competitive wages to employees) of ethical business practices. |
(g) | Discuss ways (e.g., sponsoring a local non-profit annual fundraiser and donating a percentage of earnings to a worthy cause) that an entrepreneur can be philanthropic. |
(h) | Examine the relationship among economic responsibility and the other components of social responsibility. |
(i) | Debate the opinion that economic responsibility is the most important component of social responsibility. |
(j) | Compare the social responsibility efforts of at least two businesses in the same industry. |
(k) | Develop a social responsibility plan for an existing, proposed or fictitious business. |
