Outcome
Investigate diagnostic service processes for agricultural equipment storage batteries.
Indicators
(a) | Follow the manufacturer’s safe work practices when working with storage batteries, including maintaining a clean and organized work area. |
(b) | Identify the manufacturer’s requirements for the voltage, size, shape and quantity of batteries required for specific agricultural equipment. |
(c) | Describe the construction and operation of common types (e.g., absorbent glass mat [AGM] and lead acid) of agricultural equipment storage batteries. |
(d) | Identify cold cranking amperes (CCA) and reserve capacity minutes of storage batteries. |
(e) | Perform service tests (e.g., check voltage and load) on storage batteries. |
(f) | Follow safe procedures including connection order when performing battery replacement, boosting and charging operations. |
(g) | Describe and diagnose common battery failures (e.g., frozen, sulfated and short circuits). |
(h) | Follow correct environmental procedures for recycling and disposal of storage batteries. |
(i) | Identify emergency procedures for first aid and cleanup of ruptured batteries. |
