Construct meaning, with some guidance, of a variety of Nakoda simple oral and written fiction and non-fiction texts on familiar topics.
Indicators for this outcome
(a) Interpret and respond to traditional narratives relating to areas of Nakoda worldview, such as histories, moral stories, songs, informational texts and entertaining stories from electronic or print mediums.
(b) Interpret and respond to contemporary Nakoda reflections expressed in a variety of mediums, such as documentaries on a topic of choice or modern Nakoda art, dance, drama and music.
(c) Listen to and interpret some of the proceedings of community meetings regarding topics relevant to cultural areas of study, such as meetings with Elders, band council meetings or school committee meetings.
(d) Identify the purpose of texts (e.g., describe, retell, persuade, entertain, instruct).
(e) Read and interpret simple excerpts from stories from the oral tradition supported with occasional informative illustrations, photos or other visual representations.
(f) Read and interpret a descriptive passage of text or a detailed set of instructions for a process, supported with occasional informative illustrations.
