Outcome
Investigate the steps in a creative design process.
Indicators
(a) Explore the steps of a creative design process, including:
  • define the problem to be addressed;
  • collect information pertinent to the problem from an end user (or client if design is commissioned);
  • brainstorm potential approaches and solutions;
  • analyze ideas and assess ideas and potential solutions;
  • develop potential solutions;
  • test potential solutions and/or present ideas for feedback to end user, client, design expert or peers;
  • collect data from test of potential solutions;
  • improve tested solution;
  • improve design; and,
  • communicate with end user regarding the effectiveness of a design and address further modifications desired.
(b) Differentiate between art and design.
(c) Explain the relationship between art and creative design.
(d) Compare the characteristics of artistic, manufacturing and engineering design processes.
(e) Justify the importance of both the process and the final product in artistic design decisions.
(f) Develop a visual representation illustrating the creative design process.
(g) Apply the creative design process to an aesthetic challenge scenario.
