DEST14
Module 14: Free Hand Sketching (Core)
Outcome
Create free hand sketches demonstrating layout and proportion to illustrate ideas and support design processes.
Indicators
(a) | Describe the purpose of creating sketches at the preliminary stages of a design process. |
(b) | Identify types of media available for sketching, including soft media (e.g., pencil, charcoal, crayons, pastels), hard media (e.g., marker), and wet media (e.g., ink applied with a brush, paint). |
(c) | Select the best medium for sketching in the context of a design challenge. |
(d) | Investigate line theory as it applies to sketching. |
(e) | Apply the skill of drawing to scale on a design challenge. |
(f) |
Apply elements of sketching to a design challenge, including:
|
(g) | Create a freehand sketch and shade of a natural form (e.g., a log, an apple). |
(h) | Create a freehand sketch and shade of a manufactured form (e.g., shoe). |
(i) | Identify drawings of geometric forms such as two-dimensional geometric figures, orthographic form and pictorial form. |
(j) | Sketch simple two-dimensional geometric figures and shapes, orthographic drawings, isometric drawings (30° and 60°) and pictorial drawings that demonstrate layout, proportion, accuracy and neatness. |
(k) | Explain how different forms of three-dimensional sketching such as orthographic, isometric or cantilevered drawing help change perspective of the product. |
