Outcome
Analyze how culture affects design of products and spaces, both past and present.
Indicators
(a) Compare and contrast the design of products and spaces throughout the world and in different time periods.
(b) Determine how product design changes and evolves over time based on cultural contexts.
(c) Articulate how an artifact is representative of a specific cultural and historic context.
(d) Differentiate between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation.
(e) Research an artifact that represents Saskatchewan’s cultural heritage.
(f) Describe the evolution of a designed artifact (e.g., churches, housing, furniture, clothing styles and fabrics) from a cultural perspective.
(g) Outline the steps of the design process reflected by the artifact.
(h) Explore how having knowledge of a culture or time period helps understand reasons for design choices (e.g., why bricks are used instead of wood in some locations).
(i) Examine how the evolution of technology has allowed manufacturing systems to develop.
(j) Apply technical skills to produce a design plan for an object based on an artifact idea.
(k) Present a summary of research about an artifact inspiring design of a new object.
